The Echo

The ECHO

Istanbul, Turkey

‘THE ECHO’ installation at the Beyoğlu Light Exhibition was organized to expand the international vision of Istanbul in terms of history, culture, architecture, economy and tourism. It was curated by Erdem Akan, regarded as one of the most vocal proponents of Turkish design heritage, as a part of the Beyoğlu Cultural Road Festival. 'THE ECHO' installation is structurally derived from recycled wastewater pipes and supports the reduction of carbon footprints. The pipes come together like drops of water forming a cluster of lichens that surround a fountain. The construction of pipes creates a parabolic form, which is a symbol of a transition and a process as transparent as water. Melike Altinisik Architects established a unique dialogue with the residents by making the invisible visible with 'THE ECHO'.
